Novak Djokovic Pulls Out of ATP Finals Due to Injury
Novak Djokovic has announced that he will not participate in the upcoming ATP Finals, citing an ongoing injury that has forced him to withdraw. The decision means Djokovic will not defend his title at the prestigious season-ending tournament.
In a post on his Instagram story, Djokovic explained, "I was really looking forward to being there, but due to ongoing injury I won't be playing next week. Apologies to those who were planning to see me."
The ATP Finals, which take place in Turin, Italy, start on Sunday, with eight of the best male players in the world competing. Djokovic, who has won the event seven times, most recently defeated Jannik Sinner in last year's final.
The Serbian player wished his fellow competitors well, adding, "Wishing all the players a great tournament" and, "See you soon!"
Djokovic's 2024 season ends with a 37-9 record, with one of the highlights being his victory at the Paris Olympics, where he claimed his first gold medal. That win brought his total count of tour-level titles to 99.
Though Djokovic did not capture another Grand Slam title this year, he did reach the final of the Shanghai Masters, where he lost to Sinner. He also played just one match in the Davis Cup after an early exit from the US Open in the third round. The Paris Masters also saw Djokovic withdraw due to injury.
The ATP Finals qualifiers this year include Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur, Andrey Rublev, and Jannik Sinner, who will now compete for the title without the presence of Djokovic.
