Draper Advances to Second Round of Paris Masters with Victory Over Lehecka
British tennis player Jack Draper progressed to the second round of the Paris Masters after defeating Czech Republic's Jiri Lehecka in straight sets, winning 7-5, 6-2 in just one hour and eight minutes.
The first set was closely contested, with both players holding serve until Draper secured a critical break in the 11th game. He then dominated the second set, claiming five consecutive games to secure the match.
Draper's victory comes on the heels of his triumph in Vienna, where he captured the biggest title of his career just days prior. He is set to face American fifth seed Taylor Fritz in the second round on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old left-hander recently reached a career-high ranking of 15th in the world following his semi-final appearance at the US Open last month.
In other results, Spain's Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the third round with a 7-5, 6-1 win against Chilean Nicolas Jarry. The second seed, who received a bye in the first round, will meet either France's Ugo Humbert or American Marcos Giron in the last 16.
Australia's Alex de Minaur improved his chances of qualifying for the season-ending ATP Finals with a first-round win over Argentina's Mariano Navone, finishing 7-5, 6-1. De Minaur needs to reach the quarter-finals in Paris to replace Andrey Rublev in the final qualification position and will face Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic next.
Meanwhile, Russian sixth seed Andrey Rublev, who also had a first-round bye, was eliminated after losing to Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo in two closely contested tiebreak sets, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-5).
Earlier on Tuesday, world number one Jannik Sinner withdrew from the Masters 1,000 event due to illness. Sinner stated, "Today I feel better already a little bit, but the body is not ready to compete and I still feel very, very weak." He hopes to recover in time for the ATP Finals, scheduled to take place in Turin from November 13 to 20.
