Djokovic Aims for Swift Return Post Knee Surgery
Novak Djokovic is determined to make a swift return to the court after undergoing surgery to address a knee injury he sustained during the French Open.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion was forced to withdraw from his quarter-final match against Casper Ruud due to a tear in the medial meniscus of his right knee, an injury sustained in his fourth-round victory over Francisco Cerundolo.
With a recovery period of at least three weeks anticipated, Djokovic faces the possibility of missing Wimbledon, commencing on July 1st. Furthermore, his preparations for the Olympic Games, beginning on July 27th in Paris, will be significantly affected.
In a statement, Djokovic expressed, "I'm still processing it all but I am happy to update you that the surgery went well. My love for this sport is strong and the desire to compete at the highest level is what keeps me going."
A seven-time Wimbledon champion, Djokovic's absence would be notable, particularly as he narrowly lost to Carlos Alcaraz in a thrilling five-set final last year.
Notably, Djokovic has yet to secure Olympic gold, an achievement he has openly identified as a top priority for this year.
"I am so appreciative of the team of doctors who have been by my side as well as the overwhelming support I have received from my fans," Djokovic conveyed alongside a picture of himself and his medical team.
Remaining optimistic, Djokovic affirmed, "I'm going to do my best to be healthy and fit to return to the court as soon as possible."
With Djokovic sidelined, Italy's Jannik Sinner is poised to ascend to the world number one ranking.
Australian Open champion Sinner is slated to face Spain's Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open semi-finals on Friday.
