The game had shifted several times in the final quarter. The Cowboys led 20-9 with 5:16 left, but Washington responded with a Zach Ertz touchdown two minutes later. Dallas quickly regained a two-possession lead after KaVontae Turpin's spectacular 99-yard kickoff return touchdown with less than three minutes remaining, setting the stage for the late drama.
The Cowboys, who had lost five consecutive games heading into Sunday, moved to 5-7 with the victory. Washington, hoping to challenge for the NFC East title, fell to 7-5, having now lost three straight games.
