Jets Considering Parting Ways with Rodgers After 2025 Season Following Major Organizational Shake-Up
The New York Jets are reportedly looking to part ways with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers after the 2025 season, according to sources speaking to SNY's Connor Hughes.
The decision comes amid a major overhaul within the organization. General manager Joe Douglas was fired on Tuesday, while head coach Robert Saleh was dismissed earlier in the season following a 2-3 start. Additionally, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was stripped of his play-calling duties.
Parting ways with Rodgers would mark the end of a difficult chapter for the Jets, who began the 2024 season with high hopes of contending in the AFC, only to face disappointing results. With a current record of 3-8, the Jets are tied for last in the AFC East and have gone 1-5 under interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich.
Rodgers, 41, has had a subpar 2024 season by his standards. He has completed 63.4% of his passes, throwing for 17 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. However, his 6.4 yards per attempt and 88.9 passer rating would be career lows for him as a full-time starter.
In an effort to improve the team's outlook, the Jets traded for star wide receiver Davante Adams in October, reuniting him with Rodgers. Despite the addition, Adams has recorded just 278 yards and one touchdown in five games.
Rodgers was acquired from the Green Bay Packers in April 2023, but his first season in New York was cut short after just four snaps due to a torn Achilles tendon, sidelining him for the entire year.
Rodgers is under contract with the Jets through 2025, but there is no guaranteed money left on his deal, according to Over The Cap.
The Jets have struggled in recent years, failing to win more than seven games in any season since hiring Douglas in 2019. The team has not made the playoffs since 2010 and has cycled through 15 different starting quarterbacks since their last postseason appearance.
