Lions Dominate Jaguars in Record-Setting Victory, Improve to 9-1

Jared Goff led a commanding performance with four touchdown passes, connecting twice with Amon-Ra St. Brown, as the Detroit Lions dismantled the Jacksonville Jaguars 52-6 on Sunday. Running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs contributed three rushing touchdowns, powering the Lions to their eighth consecutive win.

The Lions, now at 9-1, have matched their best start since 1934, solidifying their place at the top of the NFC standings. The victory marked the largest winning margin in Detroit's franchise history, with a 46-point gap, while also delivering the heaviest defeat ever for Jacksonville. Detroit set a new franchise record with 644 total yards of offense.

The Jaguars, dropping to 2-9, have now lost four games in a row for the second time this season and 14 of their last 17 games overall. This recent skid has raised concerns about the future of head coach Doug Pederson.

Jacksonville's rookie kicker, Cam Little, opened the game with a career-long 59-yard field goal and added another before halftime. However, the Lions responded aggressively, scoring four touchdowns by the second quarter to establish a commanding 28-3 lead.

Montgomery initiated Detroit's scoring spree with a 2-yard rushing touchdown, followed by a 1-yard run from Gibbs. Goff then threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to St. Brown, who extended his streak to eight consecutive games with a touchdown reception.

Detroit maintained their offensive pressure in the second half. Goff connected on a 64-yard pass to Jameson Williams, followed by a 5-yard touchdown to Brock Wright and another 9-yard strike to St. Brown, bringing the score to 49-6 early in the fourth quarter.

Goff delivered an exceptional performance, completing 24 of 29 passes for 412 yards and four touchdowns, achieving a perfect passer rating. This came a week after he threw five interceptions but still managed to lead the Lions to a comeback win against the Houston Texans. St. Brown and Williams set single-game highs with 161 and 124 receiving yards, respectively, while Montgomery and Gibbs combined for 218 yards of total offense.

Backup quarterback Hendon Hooker entered the game in the fourth quarter, leading a drive that ended with Jake Bates' 54-yard field goal. Detroit then ran out the clock without further attempts to score.

Defensively, the Lions received a boost from new addition Za'Darius Smith, who recorded a sack in his debut.

Jacksonville's quarterback Mac Jones, filling in for the injured Trevor Lawrence, had a rough outing. He completed 17 of 29 passes for 138 yards and threw an interception late in the third quarter near Detroit's end zone, with Kerby Joseph securing his seventh pick of the season.
