Christian McCaffrey Set for Season Debut Against Buccaneers
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has declared himself "ready to go" as he prepares to make his season debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday.
Reflecting on his absence, McCaffrey stated, "The last eight weeks were extremely unfortunate. For me, it's very tough being injured. It's tough physically, mentally, emotionally, especially when it's just not how you planned it. It wasn't expected. Some stuff just went wrong, but I'm feeling great now. Ready to go," he shared with ESPN's Nick Wagoner.
McCaffrey has been sidelined due to bilateral Achilles tendinitis. Initially a surprise inactive for the 49ers' opening game, he was then placed on injured reserve before Week 2. During his recovery period, reports suggested that the reigning Offensive Player of the Year traveled to Germany for specialized treatment. However, McCaffrey did not confirm this, only saying, "When you're on IR and you're hurt, you'll do anything to come back."
The running back expressed optimism about his recovery: "So, I'm feeling good now. That's all that matters."
San Francisco plans to activate McCaffrey from injured reserve on Saturday, hoping his return can help them improve their current 4-4 record as they chase the NFC West leader, the 5-4 Arizona Cardinals. McCaffrey last appeared in the Super Bowl last season, leading the league with 2,023 yards from scrimmage and scoring a total of 21 touchdowns in 2023.
