Panthers Secure Chuba Hubbard with 4-Year, $33.2M Contract Extension
The Carolina Panthers have extended the contract of running back Chuba Hubbard with a four-year deal worth $33.2 million, the team announced on Thursday. Sources revealed to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that the extension includes $15 million in guaranteed money, with a maximum value of $37.2 million.
Hubbard is currently having his most productive season in the NFL, rushing for 665 yards and five touchdowns on 5 yards per carry over nine games in 2024. Additionally, he has caught 26 passes for 108 yards and one touchdown.
The 25-year-old has also been a consistent contributor since his rookie year. In 2023, he set a personal best with 1,135 total scrimmage yards, including 902 rushing yards. Since entering the league in 2021 as a fourth-round draft pick, Hubbard has accumulated 2,645 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in 58 games with the Panthers.
This new extension keeps Hubbard in Carolina through 2028, solidifying his role as a key player for the Panthers' future. The team is in the midst of a rebuild, having traded away wide receivers Diontae Johnson and Jonathan Mingo prior to the November 5 trade deadline.
Carolina also selected running back Jonathon Brooks in the second round of the 2024 draft, though Brooks has yet to play due to injury. Meanwhile, the team is adjusting to the leadership of first-year head coach Dave Canales and navigating quarterback struggles with Bryce Young, the 2023 No. 1 overall draft pick, who has faced challenges in meeting expectations.
