Stefanski is 'part of the solution', said Browns GM
Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry has expressed strong support for head coach Kevin Stefanski, despite the team's disappointing performance this season.
"Kevin is an outstanding coach, and he is absolutely part of the solution," Berry said to reporters, including Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
Stefanski, who has been the Browns' head coach since 2020, led the team to a 13-year first winning season in his rookie year, earning NFL Coach of the Year honors. He won the award again the following year. The 42-year-old coach and Berry both received contract extensions in June.
"There are 13 coaches in the history of the sport to win a Coach of the Year award multiple times," Berry said. "And he's the second-fastest to do it."
Despite Stefanski's achievements, the Browns are struggling in the 2024 season, with a 2-7 record that places them at the bottom of the AFC North. The team's offense has underperformed, ranking 28th in both points per game and passing yards, and last in third-down conversions.
Berry acknowledged the dissatisfaction among fans and internal concerns, adding that the team has not met expectations. "Our fans aren't happy. We're not happy internally," he stated. "The first nine games, we haven't played to an acceptable level."
Looking ahead, Berry mentioned that any potential roster changes or rebuild would be evaluated after the season's conclusion.
The Browns will return to action after their bye week, facing the New Orleans Saints on November 17 in Louisiana.
