Dak Prescott to Miss Several Weeks with Hamstring Injury
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to be sidelined for several weeks due to a hamstring injury suffered during the team's Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.
The injury is reported to be more severe than initially anticipated, and sources indicate that it will not be a short-term issue. Head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed that Prescott will miss the upcoming Week 10 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, McCarthy did not provide a specific timeline for the quarterback's return, as reported by ESPN's Todd Archer.
McCarthy also suggested that Prescott could be placed on injured reserve, which would keep him out for at least four weeks. Prescott exited the game in the third quarter after attempting a pass and did not return after receiving medical attention. Backup quarterback Cooper Rush finished the game in Prescott's place.
"I felt something pull. I felt something I've never felt," Prescott said after the game, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota.
Rush completed 13 of 25 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown in relief of Prescott. Over his seven-year career, Rush has started six games, compiling a 5-1 record with 1,786 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and six interceptions. The Cowboys also have 2021 third overall pick Trey Lance on the roster.
Prescott had a full season in 2023 but missed five games in 2022 due to a thumb injury. While the Cowboys' offense had a strong showing last year, Prescott has struggled to maintain consistent production in 2024. Among 27 quarterbacks with at least 200 snaps this season, Prescott ranks 21st in expected points added per play (EPA/play) and 20th in success rate, according to Ben Baldwin's database.
The Cowboys, who are currently 3-5, will face off against the 6-2 Eagles this Sunday.
