Houston Texans wide receiver has been ruled out for the remainder of the season following an ACL tear sustained during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed Tuesday that Diggs will require surgery to repair the injury, as reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2.

The injury occurred in the third quarter while Diggs attempted a route cut, leading him to clutch his right knee before walking off the field under his own power. Prior to the injury, Diggs had logged five receptions, totaling 81 yards.

"It's definitely a blow to us," Ryans noted. "He's hurting, of course, and we're hurting for him as well." Quarterback C.J. Stroud added, "I feel really bad for him. He was having the best time playing football in his career, that's what he told us."

Diggs joined the Texans roster this past April in a trade from the Buffalo Bills, marking a significant acquisition for Houston after their playoff appearance last season. In eight games with the Texans, the four-time Pro Bowler posted 47 receptions, 496 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. Previously, he had recorded six consecutive seasons of 1, receiving yards between 2018 and 2023. Diggs signed a restructured one-year, $22.5 million contract earlier this year, per Spotrac, and is set to become a free agent in the offseason.

The Texans face additional depth challenges at the receiver position. Nico Collins is currently on due to a hamstring injury, which will keep him sidelined until at least Week 10. In Diggs' absence, receivers Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson, Robert Woods, and John Metchie are expected to take on increased roles.

The Texans are set to play the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football in Week 9, a critical matchup as the team navigates these roster changes.
