Rodgers: ‘A Lot of Season Left’ as Jets Seek Turnaround
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is encouraging fans to stay positive and supportive, as the team faces a challenging 2-6 start to the season.
"Smile, show up, trust, believe, root us on as hard as you can. We need that noise," Rodgers said. "We're trying to rectify this as quickly as possible. I know it's been frustrating for everybody, but there's still a lot of season left."
The Jets' latest setback came with a close 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots, marking their worst start since 2021 when they finished 4-13. Notably, the Jets became the first team since 2012 to lose a game while holding their opponent to under 250 yards and avoiding turnovers, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.
The Jets' offense has struggled to meet preseason expectations despite additions to the roster, including a trade for star wide receiver Davante Adams. Currently, New York ranks 24th in the league for yards per game and 25th in points scored per game.
Rodgers, now 40, ranks 22nd in QBR among 30 qualifying quarterbacks in 2024. After Sunday's game, New England Patriots defensive lineman Davon Godchaux commented that Rodgers "don't look the same" and "doesn't look mobile at all."
Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich responded to Godchaux's remarks, acknowledging, "He's not 100% from a health standpoint," as reported by Paul Andrew Esden Jr. of The Score 1260. Ulbrich also noted that he has not considered sidelining Rodgers to allow for recovery.
The Jets will next face the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football in Week 9, aiming to improve their performance and rally the fan base behind them.
