Chiefs Acquire DeAndre Hopkins from Titans
The Kansas City Chiefs are finalizing a trade to acquire wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
In exchange, the Titans will receive a fifth-round draft pick in 2025, which could escalate to a fourth-round pick if the Chiefs reach the Super Bowl and Hopkins plays at least 60% of the snaps with his new team, as reported by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Additionally, Tennessee is set to cover $2.5 million of Hopkins' salary.
Hopkins is expected to arrive in Kansas City on Wednesday, with hopes that he will be ready to play against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, sources indicated to The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
The Chiefs, reigning Super Bowl champions, had been speculated to be pursuing a wide receiver following injuries to starters Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice. JuJu Smith-Schuster is also anticipated to miss time due to a hamstring injury, which leaves rookie Xavier Worthy as the leading option on a thin receiving corps.
At 32 years old, Hopkins joins the Chiefs after a successful last season in which he recorded 75 receptions for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns. This season, however, he has been less effective, with only 15 catches for 173 yards and one touchdown over six games. This decline may be linked to an August knee injury and the performance of Titans quarterback Will Levis.
With a 1-5 record, the Titans appear to be in a selling phase, while the Chiefs, still undefeated, are making a significant move in the trade market as they aim for an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title.
