49ers Fear Aiyuk Suffered ACL Injury
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was carted off to the locker room during Sunday's 28-18 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs after sustaining a hit to his right knee late in the second quarter. He was officially ruled out for the remainder of the game early in the third quarter.
Although Aiyuk was down on the field, he managed to walk to the blue medical tent before being taken to the locker room. Head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed concerns postgame, indicating the team fears that Aiyuk may have injured his ACL, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.
The 26-year-old Aiyuk, who signed a four-year, $120 million extension in the offseason, recorded two receptions for 23 yards before leaving the game.
The 49ers finished Week 7 without their top three receivers. Deebo Samuel also exited in the first half; he was previously announced as dealing with an illness but was active to start the game. Samuel was ruled out in the third quarter.
Additionally, Jauan Jennings was inactive due to a hip injury. Shanahan hopes to have Jennings back this week, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic.
Receiver Ricky Pearsall made his NFL debut during the contest, having missed the first six games of the season after being shot during an attempted robbery on August 31. Pearsall caught three passes for 21 yards.
Tight end George Kittle stepped up in the absence of the wide receivers, finishing the game with six receptions for 92 yards.
The 49ers are set to face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8 before taking a bye.
