Jerry Jones: Cowboys Won’t Change Coaches Despite 'Very Concerning' Lossillustration

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed concern following his 's 47-9 defeat to the Detroit Lions at home on Sunday. The loss, one of the most lopsided in the team's history, left Jones reflecting on the future but maintaining confidence in his coaching staff.

“This was a shocker,” Jones said postgame, calling the result “very concerning” and “very humbling,” as reported by Jon Machota of The Athletic.

The Week 6 loss, which coincided with Jones' 82nd birthday, marked the Cowboys' worst home defeat since he purchased the franchise in 1989, according to Ed Werder of ESPN. The 47 points allowed by Dallas are the most they've ever surrendered in a game without scoring a . Detroit outperformed the Cowboys across the board, outgaining them in total yards (492-251) and first downs (27-16), while dominating the turnover battle 5-0.

“It was just the feeling of the team having fun at our expense, Detroit having fun at our expense,” Jones added.

Head coach Mike McCarthy, who began the season under scrutiny, remains supported by Jones, despite the mounting pressure. McCarthy's contract is set to expire at the end of the season. In the offseason, Dallas brought in Mike Zimmer as defensive coordinator after Dan Quinn left to become head coach of the Washington Commanders.

Despite speculation, Jones confirmed there are no plans to change the coaching staff. “I'm not considering that,” he said.

The Cowboys have given up 167 points in their last four home games, including playoff losses, the third-highest total for a home team in a four-game span in history, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

“We're disappointed that we're 3-3,” Jones said, acknowledging the shared responsibility for the team's performance. “I don't necessarily totally blame it on McCarthy. The players will tell you they had something to do with it, too. His other part of the staff will tell you, and the owner sure will tell you he had something to do with it.”

Dallas is currently without key defensive players Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, both sidelined with injuries. The Cowboys remain winless at home this season but have won all three of their road games. Following a Week 7 bye, they are set to face the San Francisco 49ers on October 27.
