Paul George, forward for the , expressed confusion after receiving boos from the crowd during his return to Los Angeles, where he faced his former team, the LA Clippers.

George was met with a chorus of boos as he entered the court before the game and during the early stages of the 76ers' 110-98 to the Clippers. In response, the Clippers honored George with a tribute video during the game's first timeout, which George acknowledged.

“It's stupid,” George said after the game. “I mean, I was a free agent, you know what I mean? It wasn't something that I demanded a trade or went against the team here. I was a free agent. The team presented (an offer) that was team-friendly, and I did what was best for me in that situation."

He added, “So there were the cheers. I appreciate them. Those were the ones that I played hard for. The boos, I didn't get it. I still don't get it when I go (back) to Indy, but it is what it is. It's sports. ... I look forward to next year being back here and more boos.”

In the game, George led the 76ers with 18 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Despite the loss, he contributed significantly to the team's efforts.

George played five seasons with the Clippers, earning three All-Star selections and making the All-NBA third team in 2021, the same year he helped lead the team to its only appearance.

The California native signed a four-year, $212 million contract with the 76ers after stating his desire to remain with the Clippers. However, the Clippers were unwilling to offer him a four-year max contract or a three-year, $150 million deal with a no-trade clause, a proposal they had extended to star Kawhi Leonard.

Before the game, George reflected on his time with the Clippers, praising owner Steve Ballmer and president Lawrence Frank as “awesome” despite the “shocking decision” that led to his departure.

The 76ers, now sitting at 1-6 and 15th in the Eastern Conference, will next face the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday.
