Bronny James Scores First NBA Points in Hometown Cleveland
Bronny James made his mark in the NBA by scoring his first points in front of a supportive crowd at the Cleveland Cavaliers' home court, where his father, LeBron James, began his illustrious career.
"It was insane," Bronny reflected on the fan reception following the Los Angeles Lakers' 134-110 loss to the Cavaliers. "Much more than I anticipated for sure. But it's all love. It was insane. It was a nice moment. The chants really got me. I was straight-faced, but I felt it, and it felt really good, especially coming from here.
"Yeah, it was a special moment for me for sure."
Lakers head coach JJ Redick substituted Bronny into the game midway through the fourth quarter as the sold-out crowd chanted "We Want Bronny!" The 20-year-old from Akron, Ohio, made his presence felt with a step-back jumper over Cavs rookie Jaylon Tyson, earning cheers from the fans.
LeBron James praised his son for maintaining his composure during the experience. "He's better than I would have been in that situation—20,000 fans screaming my name to get in the game and wanting me to be in the game. If the roles were reversed, I don't know if I would have been able to handle it. To see him get his first NBA basket in this arena where he grew up not too far away from here, it's an unbelievable moment."
In his five minutes on the court, Bronny recorded two points, two assists, and one steal. He is expected to split time between the Lakers and their G League affiliate after the team's upcoming road trip, concluding on November 6.
