Pacers Center James Wiseman Sustains Torn Achilles in Season Opener
Indiana Pacers center James Wiseman suffered a torn Achilles tendon during Wednesday's season opener against the Detroit Pistons, the team confirmed on Thursday.
The 23-year-old will collaborate with the Pacers' medical staff to assess the best course of treatment for his injury.
Wiseman, who was selected as the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, experienced a noncontact injury late in the first quarter while making his debut with the Pacers. After attempting to run down the court, he looked down and grabbed his left leg, prompting him to leave the game.
In his brief appearance, Wiseman recorded six points and one rebound in just four minutes of play.
This summer, he signed a two-year, $4.7 million contract with Indiana, which includes a team option for the 2025-26 season. Wiseman was brought in to take on the backup center role previously held by Jalen Smith, who joined the Chicago Bulls during the offseason. Currently, Myles Turner remains the only other center on the Pacers' roster.
