Celtics Receive Championship Rings, Raise Banner: 'Let's Do It Again'
The Boston Celtics unveiled their championship rings and raised their banner before their opening-night game against the New York Knicks on Tuesday.
The rings feature 18 diamonds on the outer bezel, symbolizing the franchise's 18 titles. Each of the 18 championship years is engraved on the exterior, and the mantra of the 2024 squad, "Whatever it Takes," is embossed on the side. The inside shank of the ring details the results of all four playoff series from their championship run.
Notably, the top of the ring is removable, housing a replica of the championship banner and a piece of the home parquet floor, which includes the date and score of the championship-clinching game.
Celtics star Jayson Tatum addressed the crowd at TD Garden following the ring ceremony, stating, "Let's do it again," as reported by Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.
Following the presentation of the rings, the Celtics lifted their new championship banner to the rafters. This marks the team's first title since 2008, placing them one ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers for the most championships in NBA history.
Finals MVP Jaylen Brown attended the game in a jacket commemorating the title.
After concluding the regular season with the league's best record, Boston dominated the postseason, finishing with a 12-2 record through the first three rounds before defeating the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the NBA Finals.
