Magic Sign Wendell Carter Jr. to Three-Year, $59 Million Extension
The Orlando Magic have signed center Wendell Carter Jr. to a three-year, $59 million contract extension, as confirmed by his agent to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Carter has two years remaining on his existing deal, and this extension will keep him with the Magic through the 2028-29 season.
Carter was acquired by the Magic from the Chicago Bulls in March 2021. Last season, the Duke product averaged 11 points and 6.9 rebounds across 58 appearances.
The Chicago Bulls selected Carter with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
The offseason has been active for the Magic, who also extended contracts for players Franz Wagner and Jonathan Isaac. Key reserves Goga Bitadze, Gary Harris, and Moritz Wagner have also been re-signed.
Orlando's only major free-agent acquisition was the signing of 3-and-D specialist Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
The Magic finished the previous season with a record of 47-35 but were eliminated in seven games by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs.
