Grizzlies' GG Jackson Out 3 Months After Foot Surgery
Memphis Grizzlies forward GG Jackson will be out for at least three months following surgery to repair a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot, the team announced Wednesday.
The 6-foot-9 forward is expected to be re-evaluated in early December. Jackson sustained the injury last week while playing basketball in Dallas.
The 19-year-old Jackson was the youngest player in the NBA last season and earned a spot on the All-Rookie Second Team. He averaged 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 48 games.
During the Las Vegas Summer League, Jackson played in six games for Memphis, averaging 22 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. He shot 44.8% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range.
Jackson was drafted 45th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft after a single year at South Carolina.
The Grizzlies faced numerous injuries last season and missed the 2024 postseason. Ja Morant played only nine games due to suspension and injury, while Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart, and Brandon Clarke also missed significant portions of the season.
The Grizzlies will start their 2024-25 season against the Utah Jazz on October 23.
