Rookie QB Caleb Williams Named Chicago Bears Captain
Caleb Williams, the rookie quarterback for the Chicago Bears, has been appointed as one of the team's captains after just four months with the organization.
The 2024 No. 1 overall draft pick has quickly gained the respect of his teammates, leading to his selection as one of eight captains announced by the Bears on Monday.
Williams is joined by wide receiver DJ Moore and tight ends Cole Kmet and Marcedes Lewis as offensive captains. The defensive captains are linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and TJ Edwards, safety Kevin Byard, and cornerback Jaylon Johnson.
Other notable rookie quarterbacks who have also been named captains include Joe Burrow, who was named a captain with the Cincinnati Bengals, and Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud, the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks of the 2023 NFL Draft, who were named captains for the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans, respectively. Anthony Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick, was similarly named a captain with the Indianapolis Colts.
As the NFL season approaches, more teams are beginning to announce their captains. The Colts and Philadelphia Eagles have already revealed their selections, with other teams expected to follow soon.
