The Utah Jazz have announced the extension of Lauri Markkanen on a five-year, $238 million contract, according to his agent speaking to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday.

Following a summer filled with trade rumors, this deal renders Markkanen ineligible as a trade piece for the 2024-25 season.

Markkanen, a Finnish forward, was previously linked to the Warriors, but the Jazz were reportedly focused on acquiring sophomore forward Brandin Podziemski in a potential trade, leading to Golden State's refusal to proceed.

In addition, the Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs have shown interest in Markkanen during this trade period.

Since joining the Jazz from the Cleveland in 2022, the 7-footer has significantly improved his performance. Markkanen earned the league's Most Improved Player award in his first season with Utah, averaging 25.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. In the following season, his stats saw a slight decline, with averages of 23.2 points and 8.2 rebounds.

Despite Markkanen's impressive individual statistics, the Jazz have finished 12th in the competitive Western Conference during both seasons he has played with the team.
