Killian Hayes Secures 1-Year Deal with Brooklyn Netsillustration

The Brooklyn Nets have signed former lottery pick Killian Hayes to a one-year contract, with the opportunity to secure a spot on the roster during training camp, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Hayes, who was chosen with the No. 7 pick in the 2020 Draft, is an American-born French player who played overseas before joining the NBA. The 22-year-old had a challenging tenure with the Pistons, where he was waived in February after three and a half seasons. He remained unsigned for the remainder of the season.

Throughout his NBA career, Hayes has averaged 8.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game over 210 games, including 145 starts. He has a shooting percentage of 38.2% from the field and 27.7% from three-point range.

In the 2020 draft class, Hayes has the lowest win shares at minus-0.5.

Following the trade of Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks during the offseason, the Nets are rebuilding. Currently, Cam Thomas and Bojan Bogdanovic, acquired in the Bridges trade, are the only on the roster who averaged at least 15 points per game last season.

Hayes is expected to be part of the rotation as the team evaluates its young players.
