WNBA Rescinds Second Technical Foul on Angel Reese
In a recent development, the WNBA has taken the decision to rescind the second technical foul handed to Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese during their recent game against the New York Liberty. The incident, which occurred with 2:31 remaining in the game, had initially resulted in Reese's ejection from the match.
Referee Charles Watson initially called a personal foul on Reese during a rebounding play. Reese's brief protest against the call led to Watson issuing two quick technical fouls, resulting in her ejection from the game.
Following the game, Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon expressed her frustration, stating, "I tried to get an explanation. I did not. I don't know to this moment what has happened."
Reese chose not to address the subject with reporters directly but did express her gratitude on social media towards Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball, who offered to cover her fine, calling the ejection "weak."
Head official Maj Forsberg clarified in a pool report that Reese's technical fouls were attributed to "disrespectfully addressing" the official and "waving her hand in dismissal."
Despite the incident, Reese managed to contribute to her team's efforts with 13 points and 10 rebounds during the game.
Chicago teammate Marina Mabrey emphasized the importance of maintaining composure in such situations, stating, "Whatever he felt like was the correct call is what he made. It's more about composure for us in our young years in the WNBA."
Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball, who was present at the game, offered to pay the $400 fine that Reese would have faced from the league for receiving the two technical fouls.
It's worth noting that Reese had previously been fined $1,000 for failing to speak to the media after a loss against the Indiana Fever.
In adherence to league rules, if a player accumulates seven technical fouls during the regular season, they are subject to a one-game suspension.
