Yankees GM Confirms Conversation with Boras Regarding Pete Alonso
New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman confirmed that he recently spoke with renowned agent Scott Boras about one of his high-profile clients, Pete Alonso, a free-agent first baseman.
When asked whether Alonso's name came up during his call with Boras, Cashman replied, "Yea, sure he did." According to Cashman, the conversation focused on several of Boras' free-agent clients, with Alonso being one of the prominent names mentioned. "There's a lot of high-quality players in this marketplace and certainly Pete did an amazing job with the (New York) Mets," Cashman added.
The Yankees are in need of a first baseman after they decided to decline the option for veteran Anthony Rizzo for the 2024 season.
Alonso, 29, is widely regarded as the top available first baseman in free agency this year. Over six seasons with the Mets, he accumulated impressive stats, hitting 226 home runs and driving in 586 RBIs. He also posted an .854 OPS and was named an All-Star four times.
Despite his free agency, Alonso has previously stated his affection for playing in Queens, which raises questions about his future with the Mets.
Additionally, the Yankees are expected to compete fiercely with the Mets for another top free agent, outfielder Juan Soto.
