White Sox Appoint Will Venable as New Manager
The Chicago White Sox have officially hired Will Venable as their new manager, marking him as the 44th skipper in the franchise's history, according to a source for MLB.com's Scott Merkin.
Venable previously interviewed for the managerial position prior to the 2023 season, but the team ultimately chose Pedro Grifol. Following Grifol's departure, former All-Star outfielder Grady Sizemore took over as the interim manager. The White Sox experienced a challenging season, setting a modern franchise record with 121 losses.
Venable comes to the White Sox after spending two seasons with the Texas Rangers, where he contributed to their World Series victory in 2023. Before that, he served as the first and third base coach for the Chicago Cubs from 2018 to 2020 and was named bench coach for the Boston Red Sox ahead of the 2021 season.
In his playing career, Venable spent nine seasons in Major League Baseball, primarily with the San Diego Padres, as well as stints with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers, achieving a .719 OPS over 967 games.
