Shohei Ohtani Named in Starting Lineup for World Series Game 3 Against Yankees After Injury
Shohei Ohtani is confirmed to play in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday, despite a shoulder injury sustained during the Los Angeles Dodgers' victory over the New York Yankees in Game 2.
Ohtani was included in the starting lineup for Monday's game in the Bronx after injuring his shoulder while attempting to steal second base in the seventh inning of Saturday's 4-2 win. He experienced pain after his left arm was impacted during the slide, resulting in him being called out.
Following the incident, Ohtani left the stadium shortly after the game concluded. However, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided optimistic updates on Ohtani's condition, stating on Sunday that Ohtani was "feeling good" and "in a great spot." Roberts noted, "I think that he's obviously very well aware of himself and his body, so if he feels good enough to go, I see no reason why he wouldn't be in there."
This season, Ohtani made history as the first player to achieve a 50-50 season, finishing the regular season with 59 stolen bases on 63 attempts. However, he has struggled with two unsuccessful stolen base attempts during the postseason.
Entering Game 3, the Dodgers lead the series 2-0 over the Yankees. In their Game 1 win, Ohtani contributed with one hit and a run scored, while he did not record a hit in Game 2 but was walked in the seventh inning, which led to the attempted steal and subsequent injury.
The Dodgers are aiming for their second World Series title since 2020. Ohtani is participating in his first postseason this fall after missing the playoffs in his first six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.
