Como Ends 20-Year Serie A Drought with Dramatic Win Over Atalantaillustration

Como secured their first Serie A victory in over two decades on Tuesday with a win over Atalanta, marking a significant milestone for the team. The match, initially scheduled for Monday, was postponed due to heavy rain in Bergamo, which left the pitch unplayable.

Davide Zappacosta put Atalanta in the lead in the 18th minute with a volley. However, Como, owned by the tobacco company Djarum, equalized shortly after halftime with Gabriel Strefezza's well-placed shot. Como took the lead in the 54th minute when Sead Kolašinac inadvertently redirected a shot from Nico Paz into his own net.

Alieu Fadera then extended Como's lead with a solo effort, securing the win for the visitors and surprising the home crowd. Atalanta attempted a late comeback with Ademola Lookman converting a penalty in the ninth minute of stoppage time, but it was not enough to change the outcome.

With this victory, Como moved up to 15th place in Serie A, sitting on five points, just one point behind 12th-placed Atalanta. The result compounded a difficult start to the season for Gian Piero Gasperini's Atalanta, who have now lost three of their opening five league matches. Atalanta also drew 0-0 with in the last Thursday.
