David de Gea in Talks with Fiorentina After Manchester United Departure
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is reportedly in discussions with Italian club Fiorentina regarding a potential return to professional football.
The 33-year-old Spaniard spent last season away from competitive action after his contract with Manchester United expired. In recent months, De Gea has been active on social media, sharing training videos, including sessions at National League club Altrincham, which is located near his home in north-west England. His latest post, dated June 25, featured the message "ready to rock."
Despite ongoing speculation about his next move, including rumors of a possible switch to Major League Soccer in the United States, no official announcement has been made regarding De Gea's future club. Sources indicate that no agreement has been finalized with Fiorentina at this stage.
During his 13-year tenure at Manchester United, De Gea made 545 appearances and was part of the squad that clinched the Premier League title in the 2012-13 season. He also contributed to the team's success in securing two League Cups, one FA Cup, and the UEFA Europa League.
Fiorentina, currently competing in Serie A, is owned by Rocco Commisso, a businessman known for his outspoken nature. Commisso was born in Italy but relocated to the United States with his family during childhood. The club last celebrated a major trophy in 2001 when they won the Coppa Italia. Recently, Fiorentina has reached the finals of the UEFA Conference League twice but was unsuccessful in both attempts. The team is set to compete in the play-off round of the same competition for the upcoming season.
