Raphael Varane Joins Como on Two-Year Deal, Reuniting with Cesc Fabregas

France defender Raphael Varane has signed with newly-promoted Serie A club Como. The 31-year-old, who was a free agent after his contract with Manchester United ended this summer, has agreed to a two-year deal with the Italian side.

Varane, a 2018 World Cup winner, previously enjoyed a successful tenure at Real Madrid, where he secured three La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies. His recent stint included three years at Manchester United. He also earned 93 caps for the French national team before retiring from international football last year.

Como, who have returned to Italy's top division after a 21-year hiatus, appointed former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas as their head coach following their promotion.

"I will meet Cesc again, but this time not as an opponent," Varane said. "I am very happy, I really like his playing philosophy and his passion for football."
