Harry Kane Celebrates 100 England Caps with a Brace to Defeat Finland

Harry Kane marked his 100th appearance for England with a brace, leading his team to a 2-0 win over Finland in the Nations League on Tuesday at Wembley. The England captain's two second-half goals secured victory and highlighted another milestone in his career.

At 31 years old, Kane became the 10th player to reach 100 caps for England, joining an exclusive group that includes David Beckham and Bobby Moore. He follows Peter Shilton, who holds England's all-time caps record with 125 appearances, and Wayne Rooney, the country's most capped outfield player with 120. Kane's current total of 68 goals for England solidifies his status as the national team's all-time leading scorer, a record he claimed in March 2023.

Kane is now the third player to score on his 100th England appearance, following Rooney in 2014 and Bobby Charlton in 1970.

Before kick-off, Kane led England onto the field alongside two of his children and received a commemorative gold cap, presented by fellow England centurions Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole. Kane's performance, which included an acrobatic finish for his first goal, further underscored his significance to the team.

His goals came after a frustrating first half, where he was denied by a close offside decision and several saves from Finland goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky. Kane eventually broke through in the 58th minute, latching onto Trent Alexander-Arnold's pass and firing in a powerful strike that hit the underside of the crossbar before going in. His second goal came in the 76th minute, assisted by Noni Madueke, who provided a low cross for Kane to finish from 12 yards.

This win also marked another positive result for interim manager Lee Carsley, who has won both of his opening competitive matches since taking over from Gareth Southgate. Carsley, previously the England Under-21 coach, has implemented an attacking style that contrasts with Southgate's more defensive approach. Carsley's decisions, including handing a first start to Lille's Angel Gomes and bringing on Madueke for his debut, appeared to pay off, as England displayed both creativity and resilience.

Carsley's start has drawn attention, though it remains uncertain whether he will be appointed permanently as England prepares to face Greece in their next match in October.

England's win over Finland keeps them on track in Nations League Group B2, with Kane's goals bringing his Wembley tally to 27 in 35 appearances for his country.
