German Clubs' Champions League Success Disrupts Euro 2024 Preparations
Germany's preparations for the upcoming European Championship are facing disruption due to the success of German clubs in the Champions League.
The possibility of a Borussia Dortmund versus Bayern Munich final could impact the availability of key players for the national team. If Bayern Munich prevails over Real Madrid in the semifinals, players like Toni Kroos and Antonio Rüdiger would be unavailable for the Euro 2024 training camp scheduled from May 26-31 in Blankenhain, central Germany.
With the Champions League final scheduled for June 1 in London, any German players involved would be forced to miss crucial Euro 2024 preparations.
Borussia Dortmund secured their place in the final with a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
The Bayern Munich squad boasts several German internationals including Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, Thomas Müller, and Leroy Sané.
While only Niclas Füllkrug from Dortmund was called up for previous warm-up matches, notable performances from Mats Hummels, Nico Schlotterbeck, Emre Can, and Julian Brandt could prompt coach Julian Nagelsmann to consider them for the Euro 2024 squad, to be announced on May 16.
Euro 2024 preparations are set to continue in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria from June 1. The team is scheduled to play a friendly against Ukraine in Nuremberg on June 3, followed by a match against Greece in Mönchengladbach.
Players involved in the Champions League final will join the squad just before the Greece game.
Host nation Germany will kick off their Euro 2024 campaign against Scotland in Munich on June 14, followed by matches against Hungary in Stuttgart on June 19 and Switzerland in Frankfurt on June 23.
