Having joined Union from Dortmund in the summer, Rothe has become a crucial player for the team following the departure of left-back Robin Gosens on deadline day. In the late match on Sunday, Werder Bremen triumphed 4-2 over Wolfsburg, who finished the game with ten men. Tiago Tomas opened the scoring for Wolfsburg, but Bremen responded with a goal from Mitchell Weiser in first-half injury time, assisted by Marvin Ducksch.

After halftime, Marco Grull assisted Felix Agu for Bremen's second goal, followed by Ducksch extending the lead with another goal assisted by Weiser. Wolfsburg's Patrick Wimmer received a straight red card shortly after entering the match for a dangerous challenge on Grull. Grull later scored Bremen's fourth goal, solidifying their lead despite a late consolation goal from Joakim Maehle for Wolfsburg.
