Galatasaray Signs Osimhen on Loan After Deadline-Day Challenges
Napoli has agreed to send striker Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray on a season-long loan, according to sources cited by The Athletic's David Ornstein.
Osimhen, who had failed to secure a move to Chelsea or Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli on deadline day, has reportedly accepted Galatasaray's offer. The terms include a break clause, permitting him to move to another club in January.
Napoli has also reduced Osimhen's release clause to €75 million from €130 million, as reported by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. This adjustment could facilitate a potential transfer in January.
The loan deal does not include an option or obligation for Galatasaray to purchase Osimhen at the end of the season. However, the Turkish club will cover his reported €12-million annual salary.
Despite expressing a desire to leave Napoli as early as January, Osimhen was unable to finalize a transfer this summer. Chelsea was said to have an agreement with Napoli, but Osimhen could not reach personal terms.
Although the transfer window has closed for Europe's top five leagues, Turkish clubs can still make signings until September 13. European clubs, however, can sell players after their transfer windows have closed.
Osimhen was instrumental in Napoli's 2023 Scudetto victory, scoring 26 goals. Last season, he netted 15 goals despite Napoli's disappointing 10th-place finish.
At Galatasaray, Osimhen will join teammates Mauro Icardi, Dries Mertens, Michy Batshuayi, and Lucas Torreira.
