Mbappe Nets First Two La Liga Goals in Real Madrid Victory
Kylian Mbappe scored his first two La Liga goals as Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Real Betis.
The French forward opened the scoring after receiving a backheel pass from Federico Valverde, slotting the ball past Rui Silva. Mbappe then doubled Madrid's lead with a penalty, awarded after Silva fouled Vinicius Jr.
Mbappe had been scoreless in his previous three La Liga appearances, having previously netted on his debut for Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup against Atalanta. The 25-year-old, who joined Madrid from Paris St-Germain, where he is the all-time top scorer with 256 goals, scored his first goal on his 25th La Liga shot, with the penalty coming from his 26th—more shots than any other player in Europe's top five leagues.
Real Betis had opportunities to score early on, with Abde Ezzalzouli heading wide from close range and Barcelona loanee Vitor Roque forcing a save with his first touch after coming off the bench. Real Madrid also had their share of chances, with Mbappe having seven shots before finding the net, and Eder Militao and Valverde both testing the goalkeeper. Vinicius also struck the post with a deflected effort.
Real Madrid remain unbeaten after four league games but are four points behind Barcelona. Real Betis have only managed to earn one point from their first three matches.
