Liverpool Sign Juventus Winger Federico Chiesa
Liverpool have completed the signing of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa for £10 million, with an additional £2.5 million in performance-related add-ons. Chiesa, 26, joins Liverpool on a four-year contract, marking the first signing under new manager Arne Slot.
Chiesa, who was a key player for Italy in their Euro 2020 final victory over England, expressed his enthusiasm about joining Liverpool. "I'm so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, 'do you want to join Liverpool?' – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans," Chiesa stated on the club's website.
During his debut season with Juventus, Chiesa was named in Serie A's team of the year. However, his form suffered following a serious knee injury in January 2022, which required surgery. Chiesa has made 131 appearances for Juventus, scoring 32 goals, including 10 goals in 37 matches last season. He has also earned 51 caps for Italy.
Juventus' new manager Thiago Motta excluded Chiesa from his first two matchday squads of the season. Chiesa's contract with Juventus is set to expire next summer.
In addition to Chiesa, Liverpool have agreed to sign Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a deal worth up to £29 million, although Mamardashvili will not join the club until next season.
