Juventus have finalized the acquisition of midfielder Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta in a transfer deal potentially worth up to 60.7 million euros ($67.5 million), as confirmed by the Serie A club on Wednesday.

According to Juve's statement, the agreed fee is "51.3 million euros, payable in four financial years, with the addition of ancillary costs up to 3.4 million euros". Juventus will also pay Atalanta an additional six million euros contingent on achieving further performance objectives. Koopmeiners has signed a five-year contract with Juventus, reportedly earning 4.5 million euros annually.

This transfer is the highest-profile deal of the Italian summer , surpassing the 51.5 million euros Juventus agreed to pay for Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa.

The transfer of Koopmeiners concludes one of the most talked-about sagas of the summer window, with the 26-year-old midfielder having sought a move away from Atalanta. Koopmeiners was notably absent from Atalanta's squad for the first two matches of the season due to stress-related issues, despite initial resistance from the club regarding his transfer to Juventus.

Eventually, the two clubs reached an agreement, allowing Juventus to strengthen their squad under new coach Thiago Motta. Koopmeiners had an impressive season in Serie A, scoring 15 goals across all competitions as Atalanta secured their first major trophy since 1963.

Juventus currently lead Serie A, having won their opening two matches against Como and Verona, and will face Roma, who are struggling, on Sunday.

Following the departure of Koopmeiners, Atalanta has secured the of Ivory Coast international Odilon Kossounou on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, with an option to purchase. Reports indicate that Atalanta will pay 5.5 million euros for the season-long loan and has the option to make the move permanent for 25 million euros.
