Liverpool Agree Deal for Valencia Goalkeeper Mamardashvili
Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a deal valued at up to £29 million. The 23-year-old Georgian goalkeeper will join Liverpool, pending a work permit and international clearance, for an initial fee of £25 million plus £4 million in add-ons.
Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia for the remainder of the current season and will move to Merseyside at the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign.
Alisson Becker, the Brazil international, will continue as Liverpool's first-choice goalkeeper. New manager Arne Slot also has Republic of Ireland's Caoimhin Kelleher available for this season.
Mamardashvili featured in all four of Georgia's matches at Euro 2024 before their elimination by Spain in the Round of 16. He has made 102 appearances for Valencia since joining in 2021 and has started both of their fixtures this season, which ended in defeats to Barcelona and Celta Vigo.
Liverpool acted swiftly to secure Mamardashvili due to increasing interest that could have made him unavailable in the next 12-24 months. Alisson's contract with Liverpool has two years remaining, with the option for an additional year. The 31-year-old Brazilian has been informed about and supports the acquisition of Mamardashvili, who is expected to enhance the club's future depth in goalkeeping.
