Matt O'Riley Joins Brighton from Celtic in £25 Million Transfer

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Danish midfielder Matt O'Riley from Celtic for a reported fee of £25 million ($33 million). The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club, pending international clearance.

O'Riley, who joined Celtic from Milton Keynes Dons in 2022, made over 100 appearances for the Scottish champions, scoring 27 goals. He played a key role in helping Celtic secure the Scottish Premiership title three times during his tenure. Last season, O'Riley scored 19 goals and provided 18 assists in Celtic's successful title-winning campaign.

Prior to Brighton's successful bid, Celtic had rejected offers from Europa League holders Atalanta and Spanish club Atletico Madrid for O'Riley.

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler commented on the signing, stating: "He plays a very specialist position. He is very good at occupying and attacking the right space and likes making deep runs, knowing when to attack at the right time. He enjoys getting forward and attacking the opponent's penalty area, but he also has a good defensive instinct. That balance makes him special. He is a great character, and has a good ambition to succeed and that's something which is very important for us."

O'Riley's move to Brighton is set to bolster the club's midfield options as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League season.
