Leicester Sign Palace Forward Ayew for £5m
Leicester City have completed the signing of Ghana forward Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace for an initial fee of £5 million. The 32-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract with the Foxes.
Ayew, who has been with Palace since joining on loan in 2018, made 212 appearances and scored 23 goals during his tenure. He was a second-half substitute in Palace's recent 2-1 loss to Brentford.
The transfer fee for Ayew could increase to £8 million with add-ons. He joins Leicester along with Oliver Skipp, who was signed from Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week for £20 million.
Leicester manager Steve Cooper has expressed a desire to strengthen his squad's attacking options. Ayew expressed his excitement about joining Leicester, stating, “I'm very happy to be here and I'm proud. I want to thank the club as they fought hard to bring me here - it happened quickly and I'm so happy to be here. As a player, when you hear that the manager wants you, it just makes you want to come and work under him and to try to improve. Even though I'm 32, as a player you always want to learn and improve. I'm here to work hard and help the team achieve their targets.”
Leicester, newly promoted to the Premier League, drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur in their opening match of the season, with Jamie Vardy scoring the equaliser. Their next fixture is against Fulham on Saturday at 15:00 BST.
