Newcastle Defender Kieran Trippier Seeks Move Away from Club
Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has expressed his desire to leave the club this month in search of regular first-team football. The 33-year-old England international was an unused substitute during Newcastle's 1-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday.
Trippier, who signed with Newcastle from Atletico Madrid in 2022, currently finds himself behind former Southampton full-back Tino Livramento in the right-back position.
In January, Newcastle blocked Trippier's potential move amid interest from Bayern Munich and Saudi Arabian clubs. The defender has now been linked with a transfer to Everton, where he could reunite with Sean Dyche, his former manager at Burnley.
Dyche addressed the speculation in a news conference on Thursday, stating, "He's one of many names that has come up here. As if by magic, his name comes up when we don't have a right-back available."
Everton will be missing full-back Ashley Young for their upcoming match against Tottenham due to his red card in the recent defeat to Brighton.
Trippier, who has earned 54 international caps, was a key player for England in the early stages of Euro 2024 but was substituted for Luke Shaw in the final. He has two years remaining on his contract with Newcastle.
