Juve Start Strong with 3-0 Win Over Como in Serie A Opener
Juventus secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Como on Monday in the Serie A opener, marking a successful debut for Thiago Motta as the new head coach of the Turin club.
The match saw early goals from Juventus with Samuel Mbangula, who made an unexpected start on the left flank, and Timothy Weah scoring in the first half. Andrea Cambiaso added a third goal in stoppage time to cap off the performance. Como, who were playing their first Serie A match in over 20 years, were unable to challenge Juventus effectively.
Motta praised his team's performance, stating to DAZN, "Como are a good team and we had the right attitude tonight, when we had the ball we did really well all throughout the match."
Juventus dominated the game, creating several opportunities to extend their lead. Dusan Vlahovic, who had a challenging night, hit the woodwork twice and had a goal disallowed shortly after the break. The disallowed goal was due to an earlier offside by Cambiaso.
Motta, who joined Juventus from Bologna where he led the team to the Champions League, has already implemented a style of play that differs from his predecessor Massimiliano Allegri. Juventus is currently adapting to this new approach while managing the absence of key players like Federico Chiesa.
Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas and supported by tobacco company Djarum, will have a chance to reassess their performance in their upcoming matches against Cagliari and Udinese. Fabregas commented, "Today was a reality check. We need to be better. They were devastating when they took the ball off us and we gave away too many easy balls. That's not tactics, that's down to individual quality."
