Ange Postecoglou acknowledged that Tottenham's "wasteful" performance led to a 1-1 draw with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday. Jamie Vardy's second-half header canceled out Pedro Porro's first-half goal for Tottenham, denying the visitors a win despite their dominant first-half showing.

Leicester, recently promoted after winning the Championship, weathered several missed opportunities by Tottenham. Vardy's header came as a result of poor finishing from the visitors and marked his return to action following a pre-season injury. The 37-year-old striker now has nine Premier League goals in 17 appearances against Tottenham.

Tottenham finished fifth in Postecoglou's first season, falling short of Champions League qualification due to their attacking style eventually leading to vulnerabilities. The team struggled again with finishing and defensive focus. Dominic Solanke, making his debut after a £65 million move from Bournemouth, was particularly criticized for his missed chances.

Postecoglou reflected on the match, saying, "Disappointing night for us. First half excellent and controlled the game but wasteful in front of goal. Once Leicester scored, the crowd lifted and we lost our composure. It was an issue we had last year as well. We need to keep working hard and be a bit more ruthless in front of goal. At times we made poor decisions. The dominance is great but if you don't score it is meaningless. We have to be stronger in our mindset in the front third. To be that wasteful is disappointing. We just weren't clinical."

Leicester, back in the Premier League after a one-year absence, need to perform well to avoid relegation amidst potential points deductions for financial rule breaches. New Steve Cooper saw a promising start from his team.

Vardy commented on the match, "I was as fit as a fiddle until I got to about 65 minutes if I'm honest! Tottenham are a really good team but we have them too much respect. We started getting after them and it changed the momentum. When we are at the top of our game we can give anyone a run for their money."

Tottenham had early chances with Wilfred Ndidi clearing 's effort off the line and Mads Hermansen saving a fierce shot from Brennan Johnson. Solanke's diving header was saved by Hermansen, and Cristian Romero's attempt went wide.

In the 29th minute, Tottenham's pressure paid off as delivered a precise cross for Porro to head into the net. Solanke and Johnson had additional opportunities, but Solanke's shot was straight at Hermansen, and Bentancur's close-range effort was also saved.

Leicester equalized in the 57th minute when Vardy, unmarked in the six-yard box, headed in Abdul Fatawu's cross. Tottenham's defensive issues continued as Vardy nearly took advantage of more poor defending.

Bentancur suffered an injury in the second half, requiring oxygen and treatment before being stretchered off. In stoppage time, Tottenham's Guglielmo Vicario saved a header from Boubakary Soumare, and Richarlison missed a close-range chance, ending a frustrating game for the visitors.
