Man Utd Sign De Ligt and Mazraoui from Bayern Munich
Manchester United have completed the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich in a deal potentially worth nearly £60m.
De Ligt, a 25-year-old centre-back, has committed to a five-year contract with the option to extend for an additional year. Mazraoui, a 26-year-old defender, has signed a four-year deal, also with the option for a one-year extension.
Mazraoui may be called upon to play left-back for the injured Luke Shaw, who is expected to return after the first international break. United will face Fulham in the Premier League on Friday at 20:00 BST.
United will pay £38.5m plus £4.3m in add-ons for De Ligt, who captained Ajax under Erik ten Hag to the 2019 Champions League semi-finals. Mazraoui's transfer is set at an initial fee of £12.8m, with an additional £4.3m in potential add-ons.
Mazraoui's move followed the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who transferred to West Ham for £15m. De Ligt's arrival comes as an alternative to Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite, with United's previous bids for Branthwaite being rejected.
De Ligt is seen as a more experienced and cost-effective option compared to Branthwaite, with Everton maintaining a £70m valuation for the latter.
