Spurs Agree £65m Deal for Bournemouth's Solanke
Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Bournemouth for striker Dominic Solanke, securing a deal worth up to £65 million. The initial payment will be £55 million, with an additional £10 million in potential add-ons for the 26-year-old, who has one cap for the England national team.
Bournemouth owner Bill Foley confirmed Solanke's release clause of approximately £65 million in an interview with BBC Sport last month. If finalized, this transfer would mark a record sale for Bournemouth, surpassing the £40 million they received from Manchester City for defender Nathan Ake in 2020.
Solanke joined Bournemouth in 2019 from Liverpool for £19 million, and Liverpool reportedly holds a 20% sell-on clause on any profit from this transfer. He had a standout season in 2023-24, netting 21 goals in 42 appearances for the Cherries.
Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has been actively seeking to bolster his attacking options following the departure of England captain Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer. In a news conference on Friday, Postecoglou stated that Tottenham's forward line is an area that requires reinforcement this year but emphasized the importance of distinguishing between the type of player they desire and simply replacing Kane.
"I think I said a number of times last year you can't replace a generational player and there's a reason they stand apart," Postecoglou remarked. "We've been working hard to try to get the right kind of players into those areas we need for another challenging season ahead."
In July, Foley expressed hope that Solanke would remain at the club but noted that Bournemouth had "two or three candidates lined up" as potential replacements. Cherries boss Andoni Iraola acknowledged that losing Solanke would be a significant loss for the team if he departs.
