Chelsea Sign Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal
Chelsea has officially signed goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal for a fee of £20.7 million on a seven-year contract. The 22-year-old Dane made a total of 37 appearances for Villarreal last season, establishing himself as the club's first-choice goalkeeper.
"This move is a dream come true," said Jorgensen. "I am very excited to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can't wait to get to know everyone and to start playing with all my new team-mates."
Jorgensen is set to compete with Robert Sanchez for the number-one position at Chelsea. Born in Sweden, he represented the country at the youth level before switching allegiance to Denmark Under-21s, qualifying through his paternal heritage.
He joined Villarreal's youth setup at the age of 15 and progressed through the ranks before making his senior debut in October 2020 for the B team. Jorgensen made his La Liga debut in January 2023.
Currently, he has traveled to the United States to join Chelsea's pre-season tour, where he could make his debut in one of the remaining three games against Club America, Manchester City, or Real Madrid before the team returns home next week.
Chelsea's Premier League campaign begins at home against reigning champions Manchester City on Sunday, August 18, at 16:30 BST.
