Marseille Close to £17m Deal for Tottenham's Hojbjerg
French club Marseille are in advanced negotiations to acquire Tottenham and Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The 28-year-old is reportedly set to depart north London, with the transfer fee estimated at around £17 million.
Discussions are ongoing regarding the payment terms, but both parties anticipate that the deal will be finalized.
Hojbjerg joined Tottenham in 2020 for £15 million from Southampton, during Jose Mourinho's tenure. Last season, he made 39 appearances for Spurs, although only 10 were starts as manager Ange Postecoglou preferred Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr in central midfield.
Entering the final year of his contract with Tottenham, Hojbjerg is set to become a free agent in 2025 unless new terms are agreed.
Tottenham have bolstered their midfield this summer with the acquisitions of Archie Gray from Leeds and Lucas Bergvall from Swedish club Djurgardens.
Marseille have been actively recruiting following the appointment of former Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi. They have recently signed forward Mason Greenwood from Manchester United and midfielder Ismael Kone from Watford. Additionally, they are reportedly interested in Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.
