Mbappe shines as France defeats Luxembourg in Euro 2024 warm-up
In a pre-Euro 2024 friendly, France, the favorites for the tournament, secured a 3-0 victory over Luxembourg. Kylian Mbappe, the star striker, found the net during the match.
France, placed in Group D alongside the Netherlands, Austria, and Poland, faced a relatively resilient Luxembourg side, which held firm until late in the first half.
Randal Kolo Muani scored France's first goal with a header just before halftime, courtesy of an assist from Mbappe. Marseille defender Jonathan Clauss extended the lead with a powerful shot into the top corner in the 70th minute.
Mbappe further showcased his prowess by scoring France's third goal, assisted by substitute Bradley Barcola, in the 85th minute.
France coach Didier Deschamps acknowledged Mbappe's performance, stating, "That did him good. Kylian is a great leader, and we need him at his best."
N'Golo Kante, playing his first match since June 2022, delivered a solid performance, contributing to both defense and attack before leaving the pitch exhausted midway through the second half.
Deschamps praised Kante's performance, affirming, "He was as good as ever. He did himself proud."
France goalkeeper Mike Maignan had little to do throughout the match, thanks to a relatively uneventful performance by the defense.
The match, held at Metz, saw enthusiastic support for the French team. Metz, recently relegated from the top flight, hosted the encounter.
France will face Canada in Bordeaux on Sunday before their Euro 2024 opener against Austria in Dusseldorf on June 17.
