Xavi's Caution to Successor: "You Will Suffer"

Former Barcelona manager Xavi has issued a cautionary message to his successor, emphasizing the demanding nature of the role.

Xavi, 44, was relieved of his duties before overseeing Barcelona's final match of the season, a 2-1 victory against Sevilla.

Hansi Flick, former head coach of the German national team and Bayern Munich, is poised to assume the managerial position.

Initially contemplating departure in January, Xavi opted to prolong his stay at Camp Nou, announcing his decision in April, despite being under contract until 2025.

Addressing his successor, Xavi stated, "To the new manager, I tell you: 'You will suffer.' This is a very complicated place to be. This is a difficult job and you have to be patient."

Appointed in November 2021, Xavi secured La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup in his inaugural full season. However, Barcelona finished second in La Liga this season, trailing champions Real Madrid by 10 points.

Xavi's dismissal ensued shortly after the club's confirmation of his continuity, allegedly sparked by remarks regarding Barcelona's financial struggles, which reportedly irked president Joan Laporta.

Reflecting on his tenure, Xavi expressed feeling undervalued and acknowledged the inevitability of his dismissal: "I have the feeling that everything I have done in these two and a half years has caused an earthquake... I had no choice but to accept it. It doesn't matter if I agree with the arguments."

While open to new opportunities, Xavi acknowledged the need for respite: "It's so difficult to coach Barcelona... It's been tough last week, but I have my conscience very clear. I'm proud and happy."
